Liz Jarvis MP: Water Bill hike ‘slap in the face’ for struggling families

Responding to the news that the Competition and Markets Authority has allowed five water companies, including Southern Water to increase bills by more than Ofwat had originally approved, Liz Jarvis MP, Liberal Democrat MP for Eastleigh, said:

“This is yet another slap in the face for families who are already struggling with sky-high bills.

“Water firms have been allowed to crank up prices while continuing to pollute our rivers and seas, and now the regulator has been completely outmanoeuvred.

“The Liberal Democrats are urging the Government to move swiftly on replacing Ofwat with a stronger, more effective regulator and to introduce a single social tariff to better protect the most vulnerable customers.”
