Responding to news that the Government will review evidence research findings from a 2007 report that was not provided to then Work and Pensions Secretary, Liz Jarvis, Liberal Democrat MP for Eastleigh, has called on the Government to move quickly and reconsider providing a scheme of compensation for the WASPI women.

Ms Jarvis, who sits as the Vice Chair of the State Pension Inequality for Women APPG, has been a vocal supporter of the women impacted by changes to the state pension age.

Liz Jarvis, Liberal Democrat MP for Eastleigh, said:

“I welcome the news that the Government is going to review evidence and look again at this issue. The thousands of women in my constituency impacted by the changes to the state pension age and across the country have waited too long for justice.

“Many of the women in my constituency who were impacted found themselves in dire circumstances with little to live on. They were forced to take low-paid jobs to make ends meet, and in some cases, they turned to food banks. These women feel betrayed. Telling them that 90% of them knew about the changes, when the ombudsman found that that was not the case, is gaslighting. The Government must make this right and not continue to kick the can down the road”.
