Liz Jarvis MP says Paris Shears’s campaign “has undoubtedly resonated with people” following meeting
Liz Jarvis, the Liberal Democrat MP for Eastleigh, has praised her constituent Paris Shears campaign to change the law around coercive control sentences, following a meeting with Ms Shears this morning.
Paris is calling for legislation to prevent defendants charged with controlling or coercive behaviour receiving a sentencing reduction for a guilty plea entered after initially pleading not guilty.
Ms Jarvis has reiterated her support for Paris following their meeting, and says that it is completely unacceptable that defendants can “continue the cycle of abuse” by getting a reduced sentence through pleading guilty at a late stage.
