Liz Jarvis MP says Government’s lack of vision for NHS and care is “beyond frustrating”
Following the King’s Speech, Liz Jarvis, Liberal Democrat MP for Eastleigh, has said that the Government’s lack of ambition to fix the NHS and social care is “beyond frustrating”.
Ms Jarvis stated that the NHS remains in a “state of permacrisis” and the Government’s plan to address the problems facing healthcare in this country outlined in the King’s Speech was “underwhelming”.
Ms Jarvis added that the Speech failed to address the need for genuine social care reform and that a “real plan” is needed for unpaid carers.
Commenting on the NHS, Liz Jarvis MP said:
“The underwhelming King’s Speech sadly shows that the Government does not have the ambition or the willpower to tackle the problems facing the NHS and care. It is beyond frustrating and is a huge concern for my constituents.
“From corridor care to difficulties getting appointments, the NHS is in a state of permacrisis. The King’s Speech has also failed to grapple with social care, lacking a real plan to reform the system, giving unpaid carers the support they deserve.
“A real NHS Reform Bill would fundamentally re-wire the NHS, and would have social care, General Practice and prevention at its heart. We need local services in our communities and a new focus on early intervention to stop people getting so sick.”
