Liz Jarvis MP says business rates cut could be “last chance saloon” for hospitality businesses
The Liberal Democrat MP for Eastleigh, has said it is “absolutely urgent” for Ministers to provide clarity to pubs, hospitality and high street businesses, with rumours circulating that the Government may be planning to reduce planned rises to business rates.
Ms Jarvis said that “crucial” high street businesses are on “their last legs” and that this change to business rates is the “final and only chance” for the Government to help save the street.
The Liberal Democrats are also calling for an emergency cut to VAT for the hospitality sector to boost high streets and cut costs for local families.
Liz Jarvis, Liberal Democrat MP for Eastleigh, said:
“This is the last chance saloon for our hospitality sector. From the cruel jobs tax to high energy bills, so many small businesses in my constituency are on their last legs and need support.
“These businesses are naturally worried sick. The Government must respond by u-turning today and announcing support for all hospitality businesses, including a VAT cut to boost our high streets.
“This is a pivotal moment for ministers and it is absolutely urgent that they provide the clarity that these businesses need. It is their final and only chance.”
