Liz Jarvis MP on Southern Water hosepipe ban

Responding to the news of Southern Water’s hosepipe ban, Liz Jarvis MP for Eastleigh commented:

“I’m sure we all recognise that we’ve had another very hot summer, with two heatwaves and a further one on the way next week. Rising temperatures clearly have an impact on our rivers and water levels, which is why it’s vital to have a properly regulated water industry.

“There are currently over 400 defects in Southern Water’s network. Southern Water has been responsible for Hampshire’s water for nearly 40 years. All we’ve had in that time is a lot of rises: in bills, sewage dumped in our waterways, and defects that need fixing – and in profits, shareholder dividends, and executive bonuses.”

“Scrapping Ofwat and truly scrutinising Southern Water’s performance cannot come soon enough.”
