Liz Jarvis, Liberal Democrat MP for Eastleigh, has welcomed the news that a preferred location for a new police station in Eastleigh Town Centre has been chosen after a long campaign.

Eastleigh’s previous police station was closed in 2019 under the Conservative Government after 95 years of service. Ms Jarvis has been campaigning for a new police station in Eastleigh for several years. Since her election as the MP for Eastleigh, she has also raised the issue with the Minister for Crime and Policing and the former Home Secretary now Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper MP.

Liz Jarvis, Liberal Democrat MP for Eastleigh, said:

“Our local police here in Eastleigh do a fantastic job, and it is great news that they will be better placed in the centre of town to support victims and tackle crime. Having a visible police presence is really important to local people – we need more bobbies on the beat as well as a visible police station. I have spoken to countless constituents who felt that a centrally located police station was absolutely vital to making them feel safe and I’m very glad this announcement has finally been made after campaigning for so long. Residents should never have had to wait all this time.

“This can only be the start of the recovery of local policing in Eastleigh after a decade of savage cuts to officer numbers and resources. We need to see a return to proper community policing after irresponsible and poorly thought-out cuts by the last Government. People in Eastleigh want and deserve a visible, trusted police presence our community to focus on preventing and solving crimes.”
