Liz Jarvis MP calls on health chiefs to urgently reinstate autism assessments in Hampshire
Liz Jarvis, Liberal Democrat MP for Eastleigh, has written to Wes Streeting MP, the Health Secretary, to urge him to take action over the Hampshire and Isle of Wight ICB’s decision to suspend all new autism assessments.
Ms Jarvis commented:
“I have been contacted by worried parents who have been stuck in limbo waiting for assessments for their children so can get the proper help and support at school. Many have already been waiting for a considerable amount of time and these delays are just adding to the stress and frustration at a system that isn’t fit for purpose.
“Families have not been told when these assessments will be recommenced and how long they are likely to have to wait – this is frankly unacceptable given the vulnerability of these children and the numerous other challenges these parents are already having to contend with. I am calling on the ICB to urgently rethink this decision and urgently restart assessments.”
