The motion already has cross-party support.

Liberal Democrat MP for Eastleigh, Liz Jarvis said:

“Small and medium-sized businesses are the lifeblood of our local high streets and it’s vital they are supported.

“The hair and beauty sector was hit hard by the pandemic and is now facing the challenge of increases to Employers’ NICs and rising energy costs and business rates.

“Salons including Elite Hair Salon and Jemma George Hair Artistry help train young people as apprentices, they are a vital part of our local economy and our community.

“Without action from the Government, the employment model will continue to decline, the number of apprenticeship opportunities will reduce, and the Treasury will see a loss of £2.4bn in VAT receipts with more lost through declining PAYE and NI contributions. The Government must urgently take action to protect salon businesses in Eastleigh and across the UK.”
