Government has strung WASPI women along, says Eastleigh MP after compensation scheme denied
In response to the Government announcement that it has come to the same conclusion on compensation as in December 2024, Liz Jarvis MP, Member of Parliament for Eastleigh, has firmly criticised Ministers for ignoring the millions of WASPI women who suffered hardship as a result of changes to the state pension age.
Commenting, Liberal Democrat MP for Eastleigh, Liz Jarvis said:
“The Government has strung these women along for years and now has declared that evidence shows that the vast majority of 1950s-born women already knew the State Pension age was increasing, which is completely wrong. Thousands of women in my constituency were impacted by the changes to the state pension age, working years longer than expected, and some even turning to foodbanks.
“The Ombudsman report found maladministration in the way the DWP acted. The failure of the Government to introduce a compensation scheme sets a dangerous precedent that even if failings in state infrastructure do occur, future Governments do not have to take responsibility and fix the problem. It is shameful.”
