Energy Price Cap increase proof that Trump’s “reckless war” is harming households across Eastleigh

Liz Jarvis, the Liberal Democrat MP for Eastleigh, has said that she is furious that Trumpflation is the “driving force” behind a significant energy bill increase for people in Eastleigh. 

The increase, which is set to rise by 13% from July onwards, will make the cost-of-living crisis even more challenging for households across the country.

Ms Jarvis says that we will continue to be “at the whim” of unpredictable energy markets until the link between electricity and gas prices is completely broken. Ms Jarvis pitched this question to the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero Ed Miliband directly in Parliament, and will continue to campaign on this issue.

Commenting, Liz Jarvis MP said:

“Once again, people in my constituency are being punished financially for Trump’s reckless war, which was cheered on by Kemi Badenoch and Nigel Farage. 

“Trumpflation is the driving force behind this price cap increase, and we will continue to be at the whim of volatile global markets and dictators like Vladimir Putin until we completely break the link between electricity and gas prices. 

“This Labour Government needs to get to grips with the cost-of-living crisis, by investing in cheap, homegrown, clean renewable power and listening to the Liberal Democrats by cutting VAT on hospitality from 20% to 15% to bring prices down and boost struggling high streets.”
