Eastleigh’s MP, Liz Jarvis, has said she will refuse to back the Labour Government’s welfare bill when it is voted on by Parliament next Tuesday.

The local MP said she had been contacted by hundreds of people in her Eastleigh constituency who were terrified of the impact of these proposed changes. She has signed a Liberal Democrat Reasoned Amendment that would block the Bill receiving a Second Reading.

Liberal Democrat MP for Eastleigh, Liz Jarvis said:

“The Government must rethink these poorly thought out, illogical, and hugely damaging proposals. My office has been inundated with emails from constituents who are in complete disbelief that the Government would consider these proposals when many recipients of PIP are already struggling to get by.

“If the Government was serious about cutting welfare spending it would get serious about fixing health and social care and the broken Department of Work and Pensions.”
