Ms Jarvis campaigned on the removal of the material from the building that has been found to be susceptible to structural failure when exposed to water and was widely used as a cheap alternative to concrete in the 1990s. The material has a 30-year lifespan and has been found in many sites, including schools and hospitals. £1.3bn has been allocated across the country from a government scheme started in 2021 to remove the substance.

Liz Jarvis, Liberal Democrat MP for Eastleigh, said:

“I have long been concerned by the existence of RAAC at RHCH. While I have been assured RAAC only exists in isolated and non-structural areas of the hospital, I welcome news that removal will be taking place next year. Patient safety must come first and this is a positive step in the right direction.”
